    Enlisted as U.S. Army Flying Cadet for pilot training June, 1940, the day after France surrendered. Pilot flying B-17’s and B-24’s on anti-submarine patrol with convoys from Newfoundland to Georgia until 9/43.

    Checked out as B-29 pilot, 9/43 as member of first B-29 Very Heavy Bomb Wing. Flew 33 combat missions over Japan, Manchuria, Formosa, Southeast Asia, Singapore and Sumatra, including the first and last B-29 missions over Japan, June, 1944 and August, 1945. Circumnavigated globe in his B-29 during eighteen month combat tour.
