    Pioneer pilot, flight instructor, and aircraft designer, call name "Waco." Lawrence began flying at age 16, and received his solo license in 1928. He was a pilot instructor for American and Chinese cadets, Thunderbird One, Glendale, Arizona, during World War II. Following the war, Lawrence was a civilian employee at the Litchfield Naval Air Facility, and then at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona, where he served as Quality Control Analyst until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the OX-5 Aviation Pioneers Club, the Thunderbird Pilots Association, and the American Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lawrence was married to Mildred D. (Barbaras) Sterns, and was the father of Patricia M. Sterns, internationally known expert in aerospace law and policy.
