Born January 20, 1928, Lamar, Colorado. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 5, 1947, Aviation Machinists Mate (A) School. Entered Navy flight training April 1949. Commissioned Ensign USNR, designated Naval Aviator November 1, 1950. Flew 54 missions in F4U-4 with VF653, ATG-1, USS Valley Forge CV45, December 1951 to May 2, 1952. Shot down, POW until August 31, 1953. Retired August 1, 1968. Awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Air Medal (2), POW Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Unit Citation.
