    Leonard Sinks participated in the Civilian Pilot Training program prior to World War II. He served as a pilot in the Navy during the War with VJ-12, a B-26 Marauder utility squadron that flew in the Pacific Theater, ending the war with the rank of lieutenant, US Naval Reserve. He worked for the Civil Aeronautics Authority, later the Federal Aviation Authority (now the Federal Aviation Administration). He was a member of the Society of Airways Pioneers.
