Flew as Navigator in Lt. Paul Scharfs ten man crew in B-17 (Flying Fortress) in combat from January 9,1944 to May 28,1944. Our plane was severely hit by fighters on that date while on a bomb run over Dessau, Germany. Four men were lost in the attack; the other six were all prisoners of war. I was a POW until April 24,1945. Our crew flew twenty three combat missions including three to Berlin and one to Regensburg, Kiel and Stettin.
