Pilot of the Thunderbird, B-17E in England and North Africa. On mission Jan 12, 1943 crew was credited with shooting down six enemy fighters . When removed from combat duties in ’43 his crew was credited with shooting down 14 enemy fighters, sinking two German subs off coast of France and singing an enemy ammo ship in the Med. The concussion from that caused the loss of 6,000 ft. before he could get the Thunderbird under control.
