    Lauren bought an old airplane while in his early 20's and on a frozen Michigan lake, he taught himself to fly. During the early part of WWII, he was a civilian flight instructor for the U.S. Air Corps. He than became active duty and for a while ferried B-17's from Seattle to NC before flying C-47's and C-54's for MATS in the South Pacific. After the War he remained active in the Reserves and started his own airport and flying school. He was a proficient glider pilot and would give aerobatics demonstrations in the glider at air shows. He continued to fly well into his 60's. Lauren passed away at 81, April 19, 1993.
