    Ray Sitton retired from the United States Air Force (USAF) on 1 July 1977, in the grade of Lieutenant General, after 35 years service.

    He was born on 6 November 1923, at Calhoun, GA, where he was graduated from Sonoraville High School as valedictorian of the class of 1941. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Military Science, from the University of Maryland, and Master of Science degree in International Affairs, from The George Washington University.

    He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps Reserve in August 1942, and entered the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet Program in February 1943. He completed the flight training program and received his pilot wings and commission as a second lieutenant at Eagle Pass Army Air Field, Texas, on 5 December 1943.

    Ray was on continuous active duty with the US Army Air Forces and the US Air Force until retirement. He had duty assignments in the Southwest Pacific Area, in the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Morocco, and various bases in the United States. He flew some 9,000 hours in 46 types of airplanes. During the latter years of his career he was involved primarily with the long range Strategic Strike Forces of the US. He had various assignments in the Strategic Air Command, and spent ten years in Washington, D.C., with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

    Ray is a Command Pilot, a navigator, and wears the Master Missileman Badge. He is a graduate of the Air Tactical School, Air Command & Staff School, and the National War College.

    After retirement from the USAF, he worked as a consultant for eight companies in the Aerospace arena, but primarily for the Boeing Aerospace & Military Airplane Company. He was associated with Boeing for eleven years.

    He has been the independent director on the Board of the Calhoun First National Bank, Calhoun, GA., and has been Chairman of the Board, Norshield Security Systems, Prattville, AL.
    Ray is a life member of the Air Force Association, Aerospace Education Foundation, The Retired Officers Association, Air Force Historical Society, The Society of The Strategic Air Command, and the Order of Daedalians.

    Ray was married to the former Mabel Maxihe Kennedy (now deceased) of Mobile, AL.
