    Thomas Drought served as a dive bomber pilot and fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps in World War II and Korea, attaining the rank of Major. His squadron, VMSB 244 was based on Malabang on Mindanao at the end of World War II and then moved up to Tsingtao, China.
    After being recalled to active duty at the beginning of the Korean conflict, he served on the staff of Aircraft Fleet Marine Force Pacific at El Toro, California and was assigned as a flight pilot to the First Marine Air Wing in Pusan, Korea.
    Thomas (Tom) soloed at the minimum age on his 16th birthday. In addition to his military flying, he logged more than 3,000 hours flying around the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, usually accompanied by his wife, Jane Travis Drought, and Air Force brat.
