Born in 1921, Morten "Mort" Beyer, from the beginning became a member of commercial aviation history. Starting his career at Pan American Airways as Director of Schedules in 1948, Mort continued on to work for many commercial airlines in those early days of commercial air travel, including Capital Airlines, Riddle Airlines, Modern Air Transport, and Johnson International Airlines. His global career allowed him to cover much of North America, Europe and the Middle East. In 1962, Mort launched one of the first aviation-consulting firms, Avmark. While he has since moved on from Avmark, his expertise and commercial air transport experience continues to be put to good use as Chairman of a firm that holds his name, Morten Beyer & Agnew. Throughout this Mort has been a pioneer in the aviation financial community fathering the development of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Traders (1STAT). His passion for all things transportation including boats and especially aircraft, has allowed him to enjoy his life to the fullest. His adventurous nature has led him to travel everywhere from the Chesapeake Bay to the South Atlantic, all with his wife by his side. His ability to repair all things mechanical and study the operating philosophy behind it has always promoted further curiosity in the technical realm-While many settle to retire to an easier life, Mort's continued active participation in an industry that he was raised in, only proves his passion and commitment to something he loves dearly (including his own family which includes his wife Catherine and his thirteen grandchildren). He can be found, daily, typing steadily on his Smith-Corona (non-electric!) on anything from the operating economics of Southwest Airlines, to the inefficiencies of a de-regulated airline industry. Mort's "6'13"" height and stature has made him an icon around the world, as well as the biggest critic of small airplane seats. His thick head of white hair can be seen on top of any crowd, and his words, comments and stories are never forgotten, and neither will be his contributions to this amazing and dynamic industry.
