    During World War II, Mr Lum worked in the US War Department as a Chinese interpreter. He was then assigned to work in the Special Air Force Training Program with US Air Force personnel as instructors to the Chinese Air Force pilot groups on B-17s and B-24s. Upon graduation, they returned to their bases in China. Their training was critical to the eventual Allied victory in World War II.
