Profile: My Dad, Robert C. Schenck, served in the United States Army from July 28, 1955 until August 31, 1975 in aircraft maintenance, as a flight operations coordinator, and as an airplane dispatcher. He took basic training with the 101st Airborne Division and that is also the Division he retired from in 1975. He served three tours in Vietnam ( 24 Feb 67 to 23 Feb 68, 10 Mar 69 to 5 Mar 70, and 19 Jan 72 to 17 Jan 73). Prior to those tours he served one year in Korea. He was awarded 6 Service Stripes, 6 Overseas Service Bars, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, Good Conduct 5th Award, Army Commendation, Vietnam Service with 6 Campaign Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Devices, and Senior Aircraft Crewman Mechanics Badge. He proudly served with the 506 ABN INF, the 3rd Trans Co, the 54th Artillery Group AIR Defense, the 6th Trans Co, the 15th AVN Bat 1st Cav, the 54th Trans Co, the Headquarters Trans School Brigade US Army Trans, and A Troop 2/17 Cav 101st Airborne Div. His love for aviation was apparent throughout my entire life. I can remember driving to major airports where we would sit in the car and watch the airplanes land and takeoff. We attended every air show wherever we lived. A day doesn't go by that I do not look up at the sky to identify the type of aircraft flying above me. He instilled in me a love for my country, for those who served it in the past as well as those who currently serve.
