    Colonel Norman Appold (USAF Ret) served as a combat B-24 pilot in World War II, flying more than 6 3 missions in the Mediterranean and European theaters, including the low level attack on the Ploesti oil refineries on August 1, 1943.
    His awards include the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, four Distinguished Flying Crosses, three Air Medals, as well as several other awards and citations.
    In his civilian life he was responsible for managing and successfully guiding the production and delivery of very heavy lift aircraft to the Air Force.
