    Honored by:
    Mr. Victor Seidel

Paul E. Seidel was born on July 8 , 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, to a scientific and engineering family. His father, Victor B. Seidel, emigrated from Germany and went on to be involved in the engineering aspects of the Manhattan Project, working under Dr. Oppenheimer. His mother, the former Virginia Brown, was one of the first women to study Chemistry at Cornell.
Paul Seidel followed in his parent's footsteps in science and technology studies, in his case engineering and physics at Cornell, Columbia, and Hofstra universities. After his degree work, he went on to join Sperry Gyroscope in Great Neck, New York. This was the mid 1950's, a time of significant activity in the aerospace industry on Long Island, with companies such as Sperry and Grumman making significant advances in radar and associated technologies.
Paul Seidel guided the activities of numerous aerospace programs during 40 years with Sperry Corporation, including the FFG7-class guided missile system, the Lamps helicopter, and associated projects for both US and overseas military organizations. He rose to head the Great Neck operations in systems design, and he established the Paramax division in Montreal, Canada, to service the needs of the Canadian government. He contributed leadership in a time when advances in radar and guidance technologies were critical in our continued exploration of the boundaries of what is possible in flight.
