Ralph H. Nansen received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University in 1953. During 31 years with Boeing he worked on the Bomarc program, the Saturn V moon rocket, Space Shuttle studies, was Boeing Design-to-Cost Manger, and Boeing Solar Power Satellite Program Manager. He also participated in the creation of the Space Defense Initiative (SDI).
Mr. Nansen retired from Boeing in 1987 to spend 6 years cruising in the South Pacific in his sailing ketch FRAM. After his return in 1993 he authored a book titled; SUN POWER: The Global Solution for the Coming Energy Crisis and formed Solar Space Industries to promote the development of solar power satellites. This effort reached fruition in the spring of 2000 as Solar Space Industries with the backing of Alpha Group initiated a commercial program to develop solar power satellites as the next energy source for the world.
