    Mr. Christopher L. Rumsey

Ralph W. Stone joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) in 1942 as a young engineer. He worked in the spin tunnel, and later in the 7 X 10 tunnel, researching stability and control of aircraft.

When NACA became the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), he became involved in space missions and he race to the Moon. He worked on lunar lander trajectories, and also researched human factors, including space suit design and the human response to weightlessness and angular motions.

After retiring from NASA in 1975, he taught at the University of Virginia, and later worked with a company to design a space station with gravity induced by rotation.

Ralph W. Stone's exciting and varied career in aeronautics and space, and his passion and commitment to his work, have been an inspiration to many. He exemplifies a true hero of the aerospace age, worthy to be honored on this Wall of Honor.
