    Reed M. Phillips, Captain, USNR (Ret), was born 1938 in Hyrum, Utah. Began his Naval career as an NROTC student at the University of Washington. Upon graduation in 1960, he was commissioned Ensign and graduated as a Naval Aviator at NAS Corpus Christi in 1962.
    Captain Phillips’ squadrons included VP-17, VAH-21, VT-27, and VR-52. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and five air medals while serving in VAH-21 at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam in 1968-1969.
    Captain Phillips’ assignments included U.S. Naval Postgraduate School; WST Patuxent River; U.S. Naval Forces Korea; JUSMAG Korea and Naval Reserve San Diego. Captain Phillips was Officer in Charge (O in C) of CV-64 DET San Diego and Inspector General of Naval Reserve San Diego. Captain Phillips has about 5,000 hours of Navy flight time.
    As pilot for Trans World Airlines, Captain Phillips qualified on the B-707, 727, and L-1011 aircrafts. He served as an Instructor Check Airman on the L-1011 and 727 aircraft.
    He is married to Sue and they reside in Solana Beach, CA. They enjoy traveling, and outdoor activities. They have four grown children: son, Matt and daughters, Paige, Renn and Layne. Captain Phillips is a life member of the Naval Reserve Association and President of the Distinguished Flying Cross Association, San Diego Chapter.
