    Reason: For heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary .actions above and beyond the call of duty: CPT Dickerson, distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as pilot of an aircraft no or Bach Sci. CPT Dicker son was called upon to rescue two downed crewmen that had been shot down over a heavily wooded area containing numerous enemy positions. Hovering ever the downed crew, his aircraft began receiving heavy anti-aircraft fire. With complete disregard for his own safety, he began to assist the aircraft commander lower the aircraft through the trees and undergrowth while his main and tail rotors hacked away the tree limbs. When it was necessary to walk the crew to a less dense area, Capt. Dickerson again assisted his commander maneuver the now damaged aircraft to the new pick-up site. Under heavy fire at all times, he remained calm and directed his door-gunners suppressive fire. Again he assisted in lowering his aircraft through the dense jungle. Finally successful in picking up the crew, he directed accurate suppressive fire as his aircraft flew to safety. His courage and invaluable assistance enabled the rescue to be completed successfully, Capt. Dickerson's outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
