    Honoree: Robert Charles Smith AOM2C
    Profile:
In 1943 my Dad left high school at 17 years of age to enlist in the US Navy. He became a Bombardier on a PB4Y-2 and was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. From March 3 - May 11, 1945 he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in aerial flight against Japanese forces.
Later in 1950 he enlisted in the NAV CAD program to become a Naval Aviator. He was honorably discharged in 1951 because color blindness disqualified him for pilot training.
Some twenty years later having a wife and five children, he sought after a Private license. In 1973 he died at age 47 but instilled in me the awe and splendor of aviation. I am a profession pilot because of his influence and think of him often.
