    ROBERT H. MARTIN was born 1919. Entered the USAAC Flying Cadet Program from Deer River, MN in 1940. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Pilot, Class 41-E at Kelly Field, San Antonio, TX. He was appointed Squadron Commander of the 760th BS, 460th BG, 15th AF (Italy), July 1941. This B-24 liberator group was assembled at Salt Lake City in the fall of 1943 and he continued in that capacity until completion of tour of duty in the spring of 1945.
    Participated in missions as lead pilot of squadron, group, wing and 15th AF over Romania (Ploesti), Austria, Germany, southern France, northern Italy, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
    Decorations include DFC, Silver Star, Air Medal w/OLC and the French Croix de Guerre w/Palm.
    Retired from active duty in 1946 and stayed in the Air Force Reserve as Lieutenant Colonel until age 60. His father was a Navy pilot in WW I.
    He entered the insurance business in Minnesota and retired in 1999, living in Palm Desert, CA.
