    R.H.LIENARZ was born in Austria July 6, 1916 and he died on Bainbridge Island July 9, 2001.

    His life was dedicated to Aviation. After two years as a pilot in the Austrian Military Service he worked at Dornier Development Center, than joined the-Aerodynamic Research Institut (Windtunnel) in Goettingen, Germany. He was asked by Prof. Lippisch in 1942 to join Messerschmitt to work as an independent Aerodynamician testing in various wind tunnels (Paris, Berlin, Braunschweig, etc) concerning ME 163 and ME 262 (first jet fighter).

    After immigrating to the USA in 1954 he joined Boeing (after one year work at Lamson Aircraft) as an Aerodynamicist in the Supersonic Wind Tunnel. He left the wind tunnel after one year to spend the next 8 years in various capacities in study groups concerned with advanced systems, research systems, exploratory design, re-entry vehicles, and lunar and orbital systems (lunar observatory). He returned to the wind tunnel in 1964 as Lead Engineer In the High Speed Test Program (2-D high speed test of a-variable-camber rotor airfoil).

    He-continued-as Test Director until his retirement.
