Captain Olive distinguished himself while serving as an Aircraft Commander with Company B, 4-th Aviation Battalion, 4th Infantry Division. On 14 December 1969, Captain Olive and three others were assigned the mission of locating and engaging a North Vietnamese battalion known to be operating southeast of Pleiku City. As the target was located, Captain Olive provided covering fire as the two scouts, light observation helicopters, exited the area. Despite the intense enemy ground to air fire, Captain Olive made repeated attacks on the enemy, expending a heavy volume of fire. As a direct result of his actions, valuable intelligence information was gathered and the enemy was routed leaving sixteen dead and numerous pieces of abandoned equipment. Captain Olive's personal bravery, outstanding performance and exemplary devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
