    Staff Sergeant Jack Ross of Philadelphia, PA entered Army Air Corp in 1942. He attended "aerial gunners school" and upon graduation was assigned to Lt. McGraw's B-24 crew of the 389th Bomb Group as a tail gunner and assigned to England.
    The 389th BG was attached to 8th AF and sent to Africa for combat in the Mediterranean Theater. On August 1st, 1943 they flew the Low Level Ploesti, Romania oil refinery mission while on loan to the 98th BG, 9th AF. His plane was shot down and Sgt. Ross spent 13 months as a POW in Romania.
    Stg. Ross was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Presidential Citation, the POW medal and three campaign medals. He died February 25, 2002.
