    Stanley D. Schneider served in the U.S. Army Air Force from October 1942 to February 1946. He enlisted to join the 95th Air Force Band at Camp Luna, New Mexico, an Air Transport Command training center. This special unit traveled throughout New Mexico playing at the state's air force bases and at civilian organizations. In 1945 a segment of the band was organized as the 595th Air Force Band and sent to Guam in the Mariana Islands, the headquarters for the B-29 bases on Guam, Saipan and Tinian. The 595' became a major entertainment unit performing more than 100 concerts and shows on all three islands for air force, army, navy and marine personnel until the end of the war. After receiving his BA from New York University in 1949, he pursued a career in writing, primarily in science and technology in Washington, D.C. He served there as an assistant to the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, to the Director of the National Science Foundation and to three Presidents' Science Advisers. He retired in 1987 following six years as a Director of Executive Communications at Bell Labs and AT&T corporate headquarters.
