Honored by:
Mr. Donald Bryce Thompson
Stephanie Black was the first person not directly employed by the government, NASA, or an aerospace contractor to receive the Astronaut's Silver Snoopy award. The Snoopy Award is given at the discretion of the Astronauts to persons who have contributed to their increased safety. At the age of 18, she was credited by NASA officials for suggesting an efficient backup method for testing the pH factor of the potable water produced by the fuel cells. Hydrion paper was then carried on Apollo 7 and all subsequent Apollo spacecraft missions. A similar substance is still in use on the Space Shuttle. She died, age 34.
