Stephen A. Alterman has dedicated his time, energy, and passion to aviation for the past 38 years. He continues this enthusiasm every day as the President of the Cargo Airline Association where he leads the Association in promoting the all-cargo air carrier industry, formulating industry policy and working to improve the world of aviation. Steve began his career in aviation working for the Bureau of Enforcement for the United States Civil Aeronautics Board where he worked first as a Trial Attorney and then as Chief of the Legal Division. In 1975, he joined the Cargo Airline Association and in 1982 took on the role of President.

Steve is a graduate of Brown University and has a law degree from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. While Steve is accomplished in his education, it is his love for aviation and his unwavering drive to improve both the aviation system and the environment that truly set him apart. His strong commitment to preserving the environment transcends every aviation policy issue to which he devotes his time. He can captivate an audience with his unique style, wit and sense of humor while at the same time garnering respect among his peers as an intelligent and thoughtful voice for aviation.

Steve is beyond generous and this selflessness is evident not only in his work, in the form of advocating for what is right and not always easy, but also in his genuine concern and compassion for those around him. There are few as deserving as Steve Alterman's name to be placed on the National Aviation and Space Exploration Wall of Honor.
