CW3 Susan L. (Miller) Jordan was born and raised in Valley City, North Dakota and is a graduate of Valley City State University. She is an elementary school teacher.

Susan is a Master Army Aviator with more than 2,500 rotary wing flight hours to date. She entered the military service with the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1979 and received her commission in 1983. In 1986 Susan completed Army Rotary Wing Aviation Course and she has flown both the UH-IH and UH-60 as a Med Evac helicopter pilot. She has served with Army and National Guard units in North Dakota, Virginia, Wyoming and Oklahoma.

In August 2003 she was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan where she has logged more than 100 combat hours serving in Operation Enduring Freedom. While in Afghanistan, she combined her passions for flying and teaching and initiated "Kid to Kid," a project to provide school supplies to children in Afghanistan. This project has touched the hearts and minds of many American families as well as Afghan generals and teachers, and has given her and other US soldiers an opportunity to show they care. The school packets have been sent to her from all over the United States.

Susan is married to Lt. Col. Jeff J. Jordan and has a third-grade daughter, Samantha. Her family is in Kansas awaiting her safe return.

This honorarium was purchased for Susan by her friends from the Valley City High School Class of 1979 in appreciation for her service to her country.
