    Mr. Smith served the Federal Government in a career that spanned more than 30 years. He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In 1958, he began his Civil Service Career at the Naval Gun Factory in Washington, D.C. as an electronics engineer for the U.S. Naval Inspector of Ordnance. He held a professional position in the Naval Air Systems Command for nearly 20 years. After his retirement, he was a consultant in private industry. Mr. Smith served on the team that reconstructed the Wright Flyer replica at Kitty Hawk. He is a member of the National Air and Space Society, and continues to be an avid supporter of aviation.
