    Honored by:
    Mr. Jonathan Jones

    W. Vernon Jones dedicated his professional career to the advancement of aviation. Beginning with his first flight experience in a Curtiss Jenny, aviation for Mr. Jones was an avocation. Upon completion of a B.S. Degree from Drake University in Iowa, Mr. Jones and his new wife, Barbara, moved to the San Francisco Bay area where he attended the Boeing School of Aeronautics.

Following graduation in 1942, Mr. Jones joined the Pan American Airlines team and the U.S. Naval Reserve. During this period of time he helped maintain the China Clipper flying boat fleet. He was employed by Pan American until 1960 and worked at both Treasure Island and Mills Field (SFO).

In 1960, Mr. Jones took a position as an engineer with Lockheed Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, California. Although Mr. Jones retired in 1978, he still maintains an avid interest and enthusiasm for aviation.
