Warren G. Grimes, 1898-1975
In the 1920's Warren Grimes built a lighting system for the Ford Tri-Motor ("Tin Goose") -- this was the beginning of aircraft lighting.
In 1933 Grimes got Department of Commerce approval for his wingtip lights, and Grimes Manufacturing began in earnest.
The vast majority of aircraft in World War II were equipped with Grimes lighting.
