Then 1st Lt. Wayne Stacey USMCR (Pilot) was awarded the DFC along with Capt. Lou White (ECMO) flying in a EA-6A over North Vietnam west of Hanoi. Our primary navigation instruments had failed, therefore, we used radar to navigate to our designated support position while keeping ourselves outside of several SAM site envelopes. Also we used radar to position ourselves to support A-6A bombing operations while keeping ourselves outside of additional SAM site envelopes . Additionally, we evaded a MIG who was using intercept radar attempting to intercept our aircraft, proving that the North Vietnamese had a MIG night radar intercept capability.

Capt. Stacey was released from active duty in April 1969. He joined VMF-321 at Andrews AFB where he flew F-8, F-4 and T-33 aircraft. In 1980 he joined the 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines as an Air Officer. He also served as the Battalion's S-3 and XO. He served as the Battalion's Commanding Officer from Sept. 1985 until Sept. 1987. Colonel Stacey retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in June 1995.
