DFC CITATION:
"For extraordinary achievement in aerial flight as patrol plane commander of a Navy seaplane on patrol along the southwest coast of Korea on 23 Kay 1945. While participating in an attack on a heavily-armed merchant vessel, he observed that his section leader had been hit and was forced to land in the open sea. Within three miles of the enemy shore and within gun range of the enemy ship, he landed his aircraft and rescued the entire crew of the crippled plane. His skill and courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
