We are one museum with two locations! The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is located in Chantilly, Virginia, 5 miles from Washington Dulles International Airport and 26 miles west of the Museum in Washington, DC. You can make the connection between our two locations via Metrorail or a combination of Metrorail and Fairfax Connector bus.

    (Picks up and drops off in front of the Udvar-Hazy Center. Stops include Washington Dulles International Airport and Innovation Center Station. The route also includes Sunrise Valley Drive and Air and Space Museum Parkway, including the Sully Community Center.)

• National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC (2 blocks from L'Enfant Metro)

Please note that the trip takes approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes each way, and that visitors spend an average 2-4 hours at the Udvar-Hazy Center. We recommend planning a whole day for each location.

Step by Step Directions:

From the Museum in DC to the Udvar-Hazy Center in VA:

• Exit Museum at Independence Ave.
• Cross intersection; turn right onto Maryland Ave. and walk one block to the L'Enfant Plaza Metro station.
• Take Metro Silver Line to Innovation Center station. Fares paid with metrorail passes or SmarTrip cards.
• Transfer to Fairfax Connector Bus No. 983. Buses run every 25 minutes during peak times and every hour during non-peak times and weekends. Bus fares paid with SmarTrip card or cash. Bus drivers do not carry change.
• Exit bus at Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center stop.

From the Udvar-Hazy Center in VA to the Museum in DC:

• Take Fairfax Connector Bus No. 983 to Innovation Center station.
• Transfer to Metro Silver Line toward Largo Town Center. Exit train at L'Enfant Plaza stop.
• Exit station via Maryland Ave., Smithsonian Museums. Walk one block toward 6th St. Turn left to face Museum at 6th and Independence Ave.

From Washington Dulles International Airport to the Udvar-Hazy Center in VA:

• From Ground Transportation bay #5E (lower level exit #6), take Fairfax Connector No. 983 one stop to Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Buses run every 25 minutes during peak times and every hour during non-peak times and weekends. Bus fares paid with SmarTrip card or cash. Bus drivers do not carry change. The bus ride from Dulles Airport takes approximately 25 minutes.

From Washington Dulles International Airport to the Museum in DC:

• Follow signs for the Washington Dulles International Airport Metro stop, take Metro Silver line toward Largo Town Center. Exit train at L'Enfant Plaza stop.
• Exit station via Maryland Ave./7th St. Walk one block toward 6th St. Turn left to face Museum at 6th and Independence Ave.
