Tom Crouch
Join senior curator, Tom Crouch as he discusses the history of the Goodyear Airship Control Car C-49. Built by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1934, the C-49 spans much of the history of the pressure airship in America and represents the wide range of military and commercial roles played by blimps, from wartime patrol to Super Bowl duty. The car was permanently retired in 1986 and made its final journey to the Smithsonian in 2011.
The Ask An Expert lecture series at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is presented every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 12:30 PM. A Museum staff member talks to the public about the history, collection, or personalities related to a specific artifact or exhibition in the Museum.
