Virtual Planetarium Shows

What can we learn through exploring our universe?

Register to reserve a unique experience for your students to engage in the world around them and the Museum’s content online. Each show lasts approximately 45 minutes and will be hosted on Zoom or Teams. If your school uses a different platform, please note your platform preference within your registration.

These experiences are available for groups of 10 or more. 

Programs will occur at 10:00 am Eastern Monday through Friday. If you would like to inquire about an alternate program start time please contact the Tours and Reservations Office at NASMFieldTrips@si.edu.

A star cluster also known as the "Seven Sisters" shine through what would appear to be a layer of cotton candy if it wasn't in space. Actually, clouds of dust sweep around the stars, swaddling them in a cushiony veil.

Observing the Sky

What can we see looking up toward the sky? Journey with museum educators to explore Earth’s sky, and discover how patterns and motions of the Solar System affect our everyday lives.

Observing the Sky is adaptable for grades K-8. Be sure to select the appropriate grade level within your registration.

    Grade level specific highlights include:

    K-2nd grade audiences will practice slow looking to describe patterns like constellations

    • Standards:

    3rd-5th grade audiences will discover motions in the universe that help explain observable patterns like phases of the Moon 

    • Standards:

    6th-8th grade audiences will investigate using models to describe Earth’s place within the Solar System

    • Standards:
      • NGSS: MS-ESS1-1, MS-ESS1-2, MS-ESS1-3
      • Common Core: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.6-8.1
