Jim Lovell and other astronauts are among those monitoring consoles in the tension-filled final moments as the Apollo 11 lunar module descended to the moon on July 20, 1969. Charlie Duke, foreground, served as a spacecraft communicator, or CAPCOM. Next to him are backup crew members Lovell and Fred Haise. Lovell and Haise later served as part of the Apollo 13 crew.
