• Vanguard in Space Hall

    Vanguard was a three-stage launch vehicle developed for the Navy in 1957. It had liquid-propellant engines in the first two stages and a solid-propellant third stage. Vanguard's technical ancestors were the Navy's Viking and Aerobee sounding rockets. Vanguard is on display at the National Air and Space Museum.
