Opportunity analyzed the composition of this unusual large rock, called Block Island, on the Meridiani Plains with its alpha particle x-ray spectrometer. The rock turned out to be rich in iron and nickel, which indicates it is a meteorite. The rover’s robotic arm is visible at the lower left.
