One side of the chest depicts Earhart’s flight path from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Oakland, California, in 1935 (5a). This was the first solo flight between the Hawaiian Islands and the mainland United States and helped establish the viability of aviation across the Pacific Ocean. Here, Honolulu is depicted with carved, stylized pineapples (5b).
