This spacesuit was worn by John Glenn during the first orbital flight of a U.S. astronaut. The flight aboard Mercury Friendship 7 took place on February 20, 1962 and lasted for 4 hours and 55 minutes, during which Glenn orbited the earth three times. The spacesuit was developed by the B.F. Goodrich Company from the U.S. Navy MK-IV full pressure suit, and was selected by NASA in 1959 for use in Project Mercury
