A Curtiss HS-2L plane, being used as a rum runner.
Possibly the same aircraft in the previous photos, this wreckage war-surplus Curtiss HS-2L was picked up by the Brazilian steamer Alegrete off Barnegat, New Jersey in early January 1926. The Coast Guard claimed to have fired on it earlier. This aircraft was one thought by the Coast Guard to be a prolific trafficker of liquor and drugs between the Rum Row fleet and organized crime on shore.
