The National Air and Space Museum will host its annual “Innovations in Flight Family Day and Aviation Display,” Saturday, June 15. Visitors can view more than 50 vintage, modern, military and commercial aircraft that will fly in for the day and be on display outside the museum. Aircraft scheduled to appear include an A-10 Warthog, an F-22 Raptor, a V-22 Osprey and a United Airlines jet.

Visitors can also talk with pilots, explore the aircrafts’ cockpits and cabins, and discover the science behind flight through hands-on, STEM-based activities. The family day will be held at museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Innovations in Flight Family Day and Aviation Display” will explore the engineering and design achievements of the past century of flight. In addition to the outdoor aircraft display, activity highlights include a paper airplane contest, airplane spotting and other discovery stations. Along with aircraft displays, there will be antique cars and World War II reenactors outside the museum.

The Udvar-Hazy Center was recently named “Best Museum” in Northern Virginia Magazine’s annual readers’ poll, and “Innovations in Flight” is one of the museum’s most popular events. To learn more about the museum and “Innovations in Flight,” visit the museum’s website.
