Commuter and Regional Trains

The Museum is a 10 minute walk from the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) stop at L’Enfant Plaza.

The nearest Maryland Area Rail Commuter (MARC) train or Amtrak stop is Union Station.

Parking

Car

The Museum does not offer parking. 

There are limited metered parking spots and paid commercial parking lots nearby. You can use ParkWhiz to reserve a parking spot near the Museum in advance.

Bus

Bus parking is not available at our Washington, DC location. 

Curb lanes around the Museum on Independence Avenue and Jefferson Drive may be used for drop-offs and pickups only. Parking is not permitted. 

Taxi and Rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc.)

If taking a rideshare or taxi to the Museum, we recommend giving the driver the following address: 650 Jefferson Drive SW.

Walking, Scooters, or Bicycles

Walking

The Museum is within walking distance from other Smithsonian museums and popular destinations.

We are located between the National Museum of the American Indian and the Hirshhorn Museum. 

Bike

Bike racks are available by the Museum's entrance on Jefferson Drive, along the National Mall. 

E-bikes and bicycles are available to rent in Washington, DC, including from Capital Bikeshare

Traveling Between Locations

There is no shuttle or direct public transportation between our two locations.  
Driving between locations takes about 40-90 minutes. 
Public transit (Metrorail and bus) takes 90-120 minutes.
